77 Stories, Proof en Route
almost 2 years ago – Sat, May 25, 2024 at 06:46:15 AM

Ahoy folks, a happy Saturday to you!

So, the 77 Stories is out there in the wild. We've got some feedback on editing and errata and made minor changes, and now the physical print proofs are on their way to me. They'll arrive early June, I'll hopefully have no problems, and then the big order will be sent.

I'm using Mixam for this order. They published our Founders' Edition books during the original print run, and they're good with customer service, quality, and speed. They're not the cheapest, and I've just been kicked in the nuts with a 25% price increase over the quote used last fall, so that sucks. Obviously you don't have to worry about that - you're locked in. But this is also why I wait till the last second to confirm shipping costs, because those have also been so variable. You'll be getting your shipping confirmation survey as soon as I place the full order - so keep an eye out mid June.

Ok, so what's up with people not downloading their digital copy of the book yo?! 263 of you amazing humans supported the campaign at a level to get a digital copy of the 77, but only... 163 of you have downloaded it from DriveThruRPG as of this morning! If you're waiting for your 77, go check your junk mail for something from me at [email protected] sent on April 28. That email includes your download link for the file on DTRPG.

If you're having any trouble with your download, please don't hesitate to email me at that address above.

Anyway, all is good. We're on track for scheduled deliveries to start in June, as promised, which makes me very happy. I hope those of you who do have your copy of the 77 (or a fresh copy of the core rulebook) are enjoying it! If so, please consider leaving a review on the product page on DTRPG, which can be found here

Thanks as always for your support, and happy gaming!

The 77 Stories is Going Live!
almost 2 years ago – Sat, Apr 27, 2024 at 12:46:42 PM

Good news everyone - she's done!

The 77 Stories is uploading to DTRPG as we speak. Included in that package is a set of five maps in about thirty versions and formats so, even zipped, the files are pretty beefy. You can grab the PDF by itself if you don't want maps, but I thought I'd send this note out now since I'm just stewing around waiting for uploads anyway.

I have to go to work in a few minutes so I may not be able to get this out today, but by tomorrow you will all have received an email from an @salty-games.com address (watch yer junk) with a download link from DTRPG.

As a reminder, you'll be getting the 77 Stories book via a $1 discount download code thru DTRPG. The reasoning (and pricing) behind this was fairly extensively discussed during the campaign, so I hope it doesn't take anyone by surprise. Basically, I want to game the DTRPG system so it recognizes your kickstarter support as a sale, pushing the 77 Stories up their algorithm. This helps gets eyeballs on the project, and increases the chances of me spending more money on more art for more amazing projects in the future.

What's Next?

Once y'all get your PDFs, I will wait a few weeks for feedback and corrections. The book has been thoroughly edited and vetted (two editors plus professional layout), but I'm sure there will be minor things caught. Let's get those cleaned up in the next few weeks, then we'll send her for print! That still leaves ample time for the June shipping estimate, so I'm really pleased to see everything staying on track.

The best place to leave feedback or note corrections is on our Discord server, which also happens to be full of cool, positive people playing NewEdo and having fun. Stop by and say hi if you haven't yet. If Discord ain't your bag, please feel free to respond directly to the email you'll be getting tomorrow, with any notes.

A dedicated print run will be executed for the physical books ordered during this campaign, and then the 77 Stories will become available by Print on Demand for future users. That means that you're effectively getting a limited print edition - cool eh? (Founders backers will get a special physical copy of the book and a standard digital copy of the PDF - more to come on that soon.)

What About Surveys?

Don't worry, you haven't missed anything. Surveys will go out when we're just about ready to ship physical books. I'd like shipping costs to be estimated as close to delivery as possible. The logistics company I've been using for two years has been going through some post-COVID turmoil and I'm a bit worried that I'll need to find another supplier to get these books out. I'm doing some homework and will have a backup teed up, just in case!

A Quick Request from Salty

You'll be getting your 77 Stories book tomorrow. I very sincerely hope you enjoy it, and that it lives up to (or exceeds) the expectations set during our campaign. If you do enjoy it, please consider leaving a rating or review on DTRPG. Genuine user feedback is massively important for small publishers like me. I am so incredibly proud of - and humbled by - the 5 stars and glowing support that NewEdo's core book has achieved to date. I fully believe this first expansion lives up to the standard set by the core book, and I hope you do too.

For now, thank you, and watch your email!

March Update, with Sample Layouts
about 2 years ago – Tue, Mar 26, 2024 at 12:16:59 PM

Ahoy NewEdo fam! I hope Spring is springing for those of you in the northern hemisphere.

Everything is proceeding well with the 77 Stories and Heroes books. All art has been received, edits are almost complete, and layout is roughed in. I may have commissioned too much art again... Here's some samples for you, as a teaser!

These are just samples and are subject to change. I've hired an actual professional layout artist (I ham-fisted the original book myself...) to fine tune these books, using the core NewEdo rulebook as a guideline. The images above are what I provided the artist for ideas, and I'm positive that what they come back with will be better than what I've cooked up. But, as you can see, these books are going to be as vibrant and engaging as the core rulebook. I'm excited to get these into your hands!

So, we're on schedule and I expect to start sending digital files for both books next month, as promised. Physical copies will require a string of printing and proofing, but I remain confident that our projected June shipping date is doable.

Oh, and both books will come with a series of maps for VTT use. Sweet, eh?!

Anyway, that's it for today. Stay well and, as always, reach out with any questions or concerns.

Much love,

-Salty

Pre-Order Store Is Up!
about 2 years ago – Sat, Feb 10, 2024 at 10:50:09 AM

Good afternoon all, and a happy Saturday to you.

Things are progressing well on the 77 Stories and Heroes of Hyuga. Art is almost complete and layout has begun. I'd say we're a little bit ahead of schedule, but I'm not rushing anything so we'll stick to the original delivery dates for the moment...

For those of you who missed out on the campaign, you can now place a pre-order for the 77 Stories in NewEdo (book or PDF). Head to Backerkit here to get your copy if you haven't already done so!

As a reminder, everyone who pledged (here or on Backerkit) will receive a free copy of the Heroes of Hyuga adventure module. That book is getting art, and is also getting some custom 3D maps - they'll look good in print, but they're also available for digital download for VTT use in a variety of formats. I really hope to offer expanded VTT support as we progress, so stay tuned. Here's a teaser of one of the maps:

And since we're on teasers, here's two more, of work from returning lead artists Kate Kingston and Damir Rukavina:

Aaaaand for those of you who pledged in support of the 77 Stories but who don't already have a copy of the core NewEdo rulebook, it is currently on sale at DTRPG. You can pick it up by itself for U$10.50 or as part of a bigger bundle of 5-star rated games (including PUNKAPOCALYPTIC by Robert Schwalb!).  The bundle is discounted by the amount of any game you already own, so even folks who've picked up NewEdo might want to check it out for some other sweet indie content.

That's it for now. I hope you're enjoying some game time this winter, and I can't wait to add the 77 Stories to your tables.

Much love,

-Salty
